Abstract

In this work, two cross-linked supramolecular polymers are prepared by pillar[5]arene-based molecular recognition and coordination/oxidation of catechol. In addition, two supramolecular glues are obtained at high concentrations of the cross-linked supramolecular polymers. Both these supramolecular glues show thermo-responsiveness, while only supramolecular glue a exhibits pH-responsiveness due to the unique characteristic of the catechol–Fe3+ coordination complex. This work will be helpful for designing and preparing catechol-based supramolecular biomimetic materials and promoting the development of functional cross-linked supramolecular polymers.
