9H-Fluoren-9-ylacetic acid is typically synthesized by esterification of fluorene-9-carboxylic acid chloride with methanol in the presence of an acid catalyst, such as sulfuric acid. The yield can reach up to 90%, and the reaction is carried out at room temperature. Selectivity is good, with high purity product obtained via recrystallization.
