Abstract

Fluoro-containing heterocycles are widely applied in agricultural, medicinal, imaging, materials science and other fields due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Thus, development of new and practical methods for efficiently synthesizing these heterocycle skeletons has been a rapidly growing research field in modern synthetic chemistry. In this review, we provide a summary of the established strategies through fluorination and fluoroalkylation of alkenes/alkynes used over the past decade for constructing fluoro-containing heterocycles. In addition, emphasis is also made in this review on the scopes and mechanisms of these reactions and some of the unsolved scientific problems as well as future directions in this field.
