It is highly soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol, and nearly insoluble in organic solvents such as acetone and benzene. A 4% aqueous solution has a pH of approximately 11.2 at 25℃, with a melting point around 198℃ (with partial decomposition). It features excellent chemical stability and gradually releases active guanidine groups under elevated temperatures. As a versatile fine chemical raw material, guanidine carbonate serves a wide range of applications: Flame retardant & advanced materials: Core precursor for manufacturing guanidine-based eco-friendly flame retardants, and also used as a precursor for carbon fiber production to enhance flame resistance and mechanical properties. Water treatment: Applied as a non-oxidizing biocide, sludge deodorant and bacteriostatic agent for industrial circulating water and wastewater systems, with mild performance and low equipment corrosion. Personal care & cosmetics: Key active ingredient in no-lye hair relaxers and perm formulations. It causes less scalp irritation compared to strong-alkali alternatives, making it suitable for high-end personal care products. Industrial additives: Used as a pH adjuster for amino resins, resin stabilizer, cement admixture and surfactant synergist. It is also a critical building block for sulfonamide pharmaceuticals and various organic synthesis intermediates. Biochemical & analytical use: Functions as a protein denaturant for nucleic acid and protein extraction and purification, and as a precipitation reagent for the detection of metals including zinc, cadmium and manganese.
